Eastbourne’s famous pantomime for this autumn is family favourite Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and casting has just been announced! This tale of a beautiful girl and a jealous step mother is a classic which is going to be given the Devonshire Park panto treatment complete with live music from a full band, glittering sets, a specially written script, gorgeous costumes and of course a wonderfully talented cast.
The venue is delighted to announce that Denise Black leads the cast in the role of despicable Wicked Queen, a role which will test her as she is such a well-loved actress; Denise is currently known to millions for her role in Emmerdale as glamourous grandmother Joanie, as well as for her long-running role in Coronation Street as hairdresser and Ken Barlow’s extra-marital love interest Denise Osbourne. Denise joins Eastbourne favourites, comedian Tucker as Herbie the Huntsman and of course Martyn Knight as Dame Dotty.
Brighton resident Denise last performed in Eastbourne in the smash-hit musical Sister Act opposite this year’s toast of Broadway and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo. Denise’s credits on the small screen are numerous and include Casualty, Russell T Davies’ Queer as Folk and Cucumber, Benidorm, A Touch of Frost, Bad Girls, Merseybeat, Dalziel and Pascoe, The Bill, Born and Bred, Waking the Dead, Where the Heart Is, Peak Practice, Holby City, Midsomer Murders and Doc Martin.
Her theatre work is vast but her favourite performances include performing Ayckbourn at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Shaw, Lorca and Wesker at Manchester Royal Exchange, Edward Albee in Liverpool, Chekhov at the Royal Court in London and in addition to her acting work Denise also has her own band The Loose Screws.
Snow White looks set to be the biggest pantomime that Eastbourne has ever staged, with plenty of top secret theatrical surprises planned that are already being worked on. The show will run for an extended period due to the huge demand for tickets; last year’s box office smash juggernaut of a show which had customer’s queueing for tickets and played to vast audiences with even restricted view seats being sold!
Tickets are already on sale and selling fast for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, opens on 9 December and runs until 15 January at the Sussex home of pantomime Devonshire Park Theatre, Eastbourne. To book or for more information call the box office on 01323 412000 or online.
