Eastbourne Borough Council and Eastbourne Homes have scooped a major national housing award.
The Housing & Economic Development Partnership (HEDP) has been named the 2016 Outstanding New Developer of the Year at the UK Housing Awards.
HEDP is a joint initiative between Eastbourne Borough Council and Eastbourne Homes and is delivering a programme of new housing, regeneration, community and economic development.
The main aim is to provide good quality housing and develop vibrant sustainable communities with local people at the heart of the regeneration process.
The awards are organised by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Inside Housing magazine. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, this year’s awards attracted more than 250 entries from all over the UK.
Cllr Alan Shuttleworth, Lead Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “I'm absolutely delighted that the HEDP team has received this national recognition. It’s a fitting tribute to all their hard work and dedication. Areas of Eastbourne have seen some really exciting regeneration projects take shape and there will be many more to come.”
The winners were revealed at a ceremony at the Lancaster London Hotel Tuesday night (26 April) and impressionist and comedian, Rory Bremner, presented the award.
CIH chief executive, Terrie Alafat, said: “The UK Housing Awards recognise the great work being done by housing professionals and organisations across the industry, but they also push us all to do better as a sector. We hope the achievements of our finalists will inspire others as they aim to provide the best possible services for residents and communities.”
