Fire crews remain on the scene of a massive blaze at PJ Skips on the A22 near Polegate this morning (16 August).
Crews were called to the waste site at 8.19pm last night (15 August) and at the fires height, eight pumping appliances from Hailsham, Herstmonceux, Eastbourne, Pevensey, Heathfield, Uckfield and Mayfield were in attendance, with special vehicles, including the aerial ladder platform from Hastings, and two water bowsers from Uckfield and Burgess Hill.
The operation was scaled back at 2.30am to three appliances and those have now been replaced with relief crew.
The A22 northbound carriageway between Polegate and Hailsham has now reopened, but East Sussex Highways say a lane closure will be put back into force at 11am.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are thanking nearby residents for their ongoing support and cooperation.
