The Winter Garden continues to be the home of stand-up comedy in Eastbourne this autumn when the ever popular Screaming Blue Comedy Club returns for the first date in the season on Friday 2 September with Ian Cognito, Amy Howerska and James Dowdeswell, doors and bar open from 7.30pm with comedy from 8pm.
The full season of dates for autumn are: Friday 23 September, Friday 28 October and Thursday 24 November.
Be warned ladies and gentleman Ian Cognito is back, and he is very, very funny. Comparisons are often made to Ian with late great US comedians Lenny Bruce and Bill Hicks, these guys were libertarians, not right-on liberals so be warned you might not like Ian - but I don’t think he will care much either way!
He’s been banned from more comedy clubs around the UK than any other comic, so if you like your comedy cosy and no-confrontational then probably best to retire to the bar for his set, but, if you want to see a true stand-up artist at work with no holds barred, who can make literally anything funny then this is the comic for you. Described by critics as electrifying, terrifying and hilarious Ian should be more famous than he is - but as his name suggests, playing the celebrity game just isn’t for him.
Amy Howerska is also on the bill. Amy grew up in an Army family, which makes for a lot of material! Refreshingly unsentimental she is a comic who is a gifted storyteller who delivers a gutsy set. Completing the line-up is James Dowdeswell, described as a master of the comedian’s craft, he can layer jokes upon jokes to create a brilliant pay off.
The rest of the autumn season includes: Eastbourne favourites Ben Norris, Sarah Callaghan and Stephen Bailey on 23 September, the brilliant Bob Mills returns to Eastbourne’s comedy central along with Jo Neary and Luke Toulson on 28 October and Rob Deering, Sally-Anne Hayward and Addy Van Der Borgh on 24 November.
Tickets for Screaming Blue Comedy Club are still just £10, with concessions for groups of 12+ and students, to book or for more information call the box office on 01323 412000 or online. Doors and bar 7.30pm, comedy 8pm. Line-up maybe subject to change. Ages 16+
