KPMG’s Gatwick office has celebrated the graduation of Sammy Bunn, who joined the firm five years ago as part of the KPMG Audit School Leaver Programme and has achieved a 1st in his Accounting degree from the University of Exeter.

Sammy from Eastbourne was one of the first students to join KPMG’s Audit School Leaver Programme in 2011. The programme offers students, who have finished their A levels, the opportunity to study for an undergraduate degree at a top university part time whilst working at KPMG.  The costs of university tuition and accommodation are paid in full by KPMG while and offering successful entrants a starting salary of around £20,000 (in London). On completion of the five year programme students graduate with a degree in Accounting and become a qualified Chartered Accountant with a prestigious Professional Body.  Sammy recently became a qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland.

Commenting on his experience on KPMG’s Audit School Leaver Programme, Sammy said, “Joining the KPMG Audit School Leaver Programme enabled me to achieve a 1st class degree at a top university and enjoy a large part of the ‘uni experience’ – without incurring significant student debts. I have now since completed all of my professional accounting exams to become a qualified Charted Accountant within 5 years of leaving school, which is a shorter route than a traditional graduate.

“There have been some very busy and challenging times but I have genuinely found the experience hugely interesting, largely down to working with some amazing people both at KPMG and our clients.

The firm has recently launched KPMG360º – a new three or six year Apprenticeship Programme for school/college leavers who have completed A Levels (or equivalent). The programme allows apprentices to rotate around KPMG, gaining varied work experience and professional qualifications.

The programme begins with the one year Foundation Level, where we lay the ground work for the apprentice’s career at KPMG. Apprentices rotate around Audit, Tax and Advisory, and complete the AAT Level Three qualification. Additional training focuses on bridging the gap between college and the world of work, building core skills such as resilience, collaboration and making an impact.

Upon completion of the Foundation Level, apprentices progress to the two year Technician Level. Here, apprentices continue to rotate, but for longer periods, and study the AAT Level Four qualification. At the end of year three, apprentices can step off the programme and take on a role relevant to the skills and experience they have gained, or remain on the programme for a further three years, specialise and study for a Chartered Level qualification, at which point they are eligible for promotion to Assistant Manager.
