Pevensey’s MP has teamed up with his Hastings colleague, the Home Secretary, in calling for more action during next week’s planned strikes on Southern trains.
Huw Merriman and Amber Rudd have written to the rail operator calling for replacement bus services to be run during the RMT walk out on Wednesday and Thursday (7 – 8 September) and also for the full timetable to be reinstated on the Eastbourne to Hastings line. Earlier this week, Southern announced they are reinstating more than 100 services on the network, but none are in Sussex.
Members of the RMT Union plan to hold a 48 hour strike in the ongoing dispute over the introduction of driver-only trains, whilst on the Wednesday, ticket office staff also intend to walk out over changes to the way ticket offices are proposed to be run – which would include offices in Eastbourne and Polegate.
Southern’s parent company, Govia Thameslink Rail, say their proposed changes are to modernise their service and to make staff more accessible to passengers.
