Complaints about roadworks in Polegate after a burst water main have been listened to.
Pevensey Road was damaged with the main ruptured last Thursday (25 August). Whilst the pipe was mended the same day and drinking water was restored to customers, South East Water had to keep the road shut for repairs.
South East Waters Regional Delivery Manager Stuart Whisby said, “We worked as quickly as possible to get the water flowing back to customers taps. However, because of the type of materials the road is made from, it will take longer to put in back to normal. To keep everyone safe while we carry out this work, the affected section of the road will have to remain shut. However, we have worked closely with the National Highways department who have agreed a diversion route.”
Polegate Town Council has said they were not informed about the closure and has spoken to East Sussex Highways, who have now visited the site and are arranging an alternative diversion for motorists.
