An Eastbourne teenager isn’t joining his peers in going to college today (6 September).
Billy Forse, who’s 16, needs specialist transport to get him to school, owing to his disability. Billy was a very rare chromosome disorder, but East Sussex County Council has ruled he doesn’t meet the criteria to receive help under their Post-16 Transport Policy. His mum, Leanna, has appealed the decision, but the panel failed to overrule the original decision.
Leanna, who works as a teacher, could be forced to quit her job to be able to take Billy to and from college himself. Today, Billy is 300 miles away with his dad, instead of starting college, whist his mum tries to work something out during the first week of term.
Others are now coming to the pair’s aid to try and find a solution.
