Strike action is again hitting Eastbourne commuters today (7 September).
A 48 hour walkout is underway by Southern conductors who are members of the RMT Union. They are angry at a decision to introduce driver-only trains, which would see the second safety person removed. The RMT feel this would compromise passenger safety, but Southern’s parent company, Govia Thameslink Rail, say this is a tried and tested method.
Passengers are facing a reduced service during the industrial action, with no trains from Eastbourne to Ashford International via Hastings and a limited number of trains between Eastbourne and Brighton.
Eastbourne Buzz has approached MP Caroline Ansell for a comment, but so far we are yet to receive one.
