At the AGM, held at Eastbourne & District IBC on Monday evening (5 September).
The following Appointments were made: President: Vince Smith; Organiser: Mike Taylor; Ladies Representative: Mrs Annie-France Jackson; Tournament Umpire: Terry Boniface.
Organiser Mike, reported that the 2016 Tournament had been successful and had produced a small operating profit of c.£200.
He was also pleased to confirm the ongoing sole sponsorship of the event by Wendy & Neil Kirby (Langham Hotel), who are long-term supporters of bowls and other local causes.
The 2017 event will continue to offer a £1,000 prize to the winner of the Mens Singles event and it was unanimously decided by those present to continue the Ladies competitions despite current low participation levels. It was hoped that more local ladies could be persuaded to participate.
Vice-President Ron Putland was thanked for his considerable efforts at Gildredge Park BC (Headquarters since 2001) and the venue was confirmed as Headquarters for 2018.
The Tournament commenced in 1924 as an opportunity for local players to challenge visitors from out of the town (currently 50% of the entry) to play bowls competitively and to make new and enduring friendships whilst promoting the sport of bowls.
Mike affirmed this remains the Tournament objective. Entry Forms for the 2017 event are available from the participating host clubs and from the Tournament website.
