Hits of the silver screen will be given the technicolour big band treatment as Swingin’ At The Movies with The Len Phillips Big Band and Gary Wilmot, sways into the Congress Theatre Eastbourne tonight (11 September).
West End and TV star Gary Wilmot is joining the band for this one-off special concert. Along with the band's very own Eleanor Keenan, he will be helping to breathe new life into classic songs from some of the greatest film scores ever written.
Hear music from the soundtracks to Top Hat, Show Boat, My Fair Lady, Cabaret, High Society, Singin’ In The Rain, West Side Story, Meet Me In St Louis, Girl Crazy, Gigi and Guys & Dolls with arrangements from Billy May, Glenn Miller, Ted Heath, Frank Sinatra, Stan Kenton, Ella Fitzgerald and Buddy Rich.
A repertoire drawn from the movies of the great swing era is brought authentically back to life courtesy of this 16 piece orchestra.
Heard regularly on BBC Radio 2 the band is now recognised as one of the best of its kind. Players in the band have worked with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Henry Mancini, Ted Heath, Ken Mackintosh and Ella Fitzgerald. This summer they make their annual return to Eastbourne for what is always a very special concert.
