Two of the cygnets born on Decoy Pond in Hampden Park this year are now in the care of the Swan Sanctuary.
East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service became concerned about the remaining five birds on the lake earlier this week and caught four of them – the fifth dodged rescuers and was allowed to stay with its parents.
One of the birds they caught, had a damaged wing, which it was dragging in the water – this cygnet is now at the Swan Sanctuary, joining its sibling which was admitted last month for being underweight.
After giving the other four birds a full check over, they’ve now been reunited with their parents in Hampden Park yesterday (22 September). Sadly, two of the cygnets born this year died, most likely due to a predator attack.
WRAS has kindly shared their video of them releasing the cygnets back on the pond with Eastbourne Buzz.
