It's time to get ready, steady and Pokémon Go to Eastbourne Pier today (24 September).
An unofficial event has been set up by the Eastbourne Pokémon Go Facebook group to raise money for the Polegate-based Children With Cancer Fund. Four Cosplayers will be there in character, including the much-loved Pikachu. The event, between 2-4pm, will see at least one lure down at all times, tempting the Pokémons to one of the four PokéStops, which can be found on the pier and at the statue opposite the landmark. Bucket collectors will be collecting donations for the charity, whilst trainers enjoy catching Pokémon.
Trainers are being encouraged to turn up in their team colours of either, red, blue or yellow.
One of those organising the event is Amy Lola Hayes, who’s a member of Cosplay. Amy also helped to choose the charity to raise money for. She was introduced to Children With Cancer Fund when her sister, Olivia was diagnosed with a rare tumour, rhabdomyosarcoma and the family was recommended to get in touch with founders Chris and Ursula Downton by their community nurse. Thanks to the charity, Olivia, Amy and their family have enjoyed many days out, including horse riding and a holiday to the Isle of Wight. It was on this holiday that Amy met her boyfriend, Samuel, who was suffering from testicular cancer. Two years later, both Olivia, now 8 and Samuel are both cancer free, but not yet in remission.
