A pensioner’s been rescued from a house in Eastbourne, after a car ploughed into the property.
It happened in Kilpatrick Close yesterday afternoon at 1.50pm (3 October). Fire crews from Eastbourne and Pevensey were called to the scene, along with the Technical Rescue Unit from Battle.
The man driving the Ford Escort was freed, and was found to be shocked but unhurt. The gas board was contacted, due to a strong smell of gas. Firefighters rescued the elderly man from the terraced property and isolated its gas supply. All adjacent properties were evacuated as a precaution.
The damaged vehicle was taken away and the area was made safe by Battle’s Technical Removal Unit. Gas engineers found a gas main has been damaged.
Those who’d been evacuated were able to return home just after 3pm.
