MP Caroline Ansell started Eastbourne’s Park Run at the weekend as the free initiative marked its 12th anniversary across the UK.
Caroline - with loud hailer at the ready - made sure the run, attended by 233 local people, got off to a perfect start at Shinewater Park in the town on Saturday (1 October).
“It really was a super setting with a great atmosphere and I was delighted to start the run on such a special day for the event,” said Caroline.
"These runs are a brilliant way to build fitness and well-being in an inclusive setting and in Eastbourne we have the added bonus of beauty, fresh air and the great company of residents.
“I loved being part of the anniversary run and big thanks to Mike Thompson and the team of volunteers who make it all possible every week.”
The Eastbourne event is one of more than 900 taking place every weekend around the world.
Each is coordinated entirely by volunteers from the local community, and open to anyone who wants to take part.
Park Runs are free, weekly, timed events, which are accessible to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Saturday 5k events are open to everyone, and 2k junior runs on Sundays are for children aged from 4-14.
