Eastbourne Conservatives are paying thanks to Ray Blakebrough, who yesterday (6 October) stood down as councillor for Sovereign Ward.
The group has announced Paul Metcalfe will stand for the Tories in the by-election next month.
Born and bred in Eastbourne, Paul has lived in the town for most of his life, and remembers exploring the ‘Crumbles’ as a youngster before Sovereign Harbour was built.
Paul is married and has three children. One of his daughters, her husband and two grandchildren live in the South Harbour, and a sister-in-law lives in the West Harbour.
Paul retired as a Senior Lecturer and Commercial Operations Manager after 28 years in Further Education locally. Earlier this year Paul stood down after 30 years volunteering with the Eastbourne RNLI Lifeboat as a crew member including 11 years as the Operations Manager.
Paul is currently a School Governor at Langney Primary School, and is also involved with the Eastbourne Sea Cadet Corps, Parochial Church Council at Christ Church (Seaside) with St. Philip and the Eastbourne 999 Committee.
Paul is also the holder of a Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for Voluntary Service to the Community.
As yet, no other political party has announced their candidate for the by-election.
