An Eastbourne schoolboy’s been selected for the England cricket tour of Sri Lanka.
Tom Gordon, who goes to Bedes in Upper Dicker, is a promising all-rounder. The Year 11 student has been chosen for the Bunbury/ECB tour to Sri Lanka in March 2017. This will be the second of two tours for Tom this winter, the first being with the Sussex Academy to South Africa in December.
Tom is a genuine all-rounder; a pace bowler who also bats in the top order. He has represented Bede’s Senior 1st XI since Year 9 and despite playing with and against much older students, has never looked out of place.
Director of Cricket at Bede’s and former England player and Sussex Captain Alan Wells said, “His 84 not out last year against Tonbridge 1st XI was, given the context of the game, the finest innings I have seen from a young cricketer. Having seen Tom develop through our prep school cricket programme since the age of 8, I have always been convinced that Tom has a very bright future in the game. His selection for the tours this winter are just the start of what I believe will be a very successful journey for Tom.”
