The scrapping of plans to force all schools to become academies is being welcomed by Eastbourne’s MP.
Education Secretary Nicky Morgan, hopes the climbdown will appease Tory rebels and has said this is about the Government listening.
In response to the announcement, Eastbourne MP Caroline Ansell has said, “I'm very pleased that the Education Secretary has listened to concerns over forced academisation and changed the policy.
From the start, I opposed this move on the grounds that academies do not work everywhere and local education authorities still have an important role to play.
As a former teacher, I was also worried that choice was being taken away from Heads and their whole school community and that parent governors were not mandatory in academies.”
