Round two of the fight for National League speedway glory continues at Eastbourne’s Arlington Stadium tonight (23 October).
The IT First Eagles take on the Birmingham Brummies in the first leg of the Play Offs Grand Final to decide the 2016 league champions.
It follows the clash on Wednesday (19 October) between the clubs in the first leg of the KO Cup Final, which Birmingham won 48-42.
Attention now turns to sorting out who will be champions before the cup final is decided on the final Sunday of the month.
Eastbourne were not too disappointed to lose by only six points in the cup at the Perry Bar.
Team manager Connor Dugard said, “That result gives us a clue of what we can do there when we go back for the second leg next week.
“I think, maybe, we can improve on that result but the key will be here on Sunday night.
“We aim to hit the Brummies hard from the off and try and build up a decent lead to take up to the Midlands to give ourselves a big chance of winning the league title.”
He said the matches between Eastbourne and Birmingham would all be close and looked forward to a big crowd at Arlington cheer the team on.
“Let’s greet Birmingham with a wall of noise on Sunday night. The fans on the terraces can help the lads on the track pile on the pressure,” Dugard said.
The match starts at 6.30pm.
Charley Powell is set to return after a bout of sickness with Georgie Wood also marked in for a return.
