Fire crews have been tackling a blaze in Eastbourne this afternoon.
Firefighters from Eastbourne, Seaford and Hailsham were called to Susans Road, just before 1.30pm.
A blaze was found in the kitchen of a takeaway and crews used four breathing apparatus and a hose reel to fight it.
The fire is now thought to be out, but crews are staying on the scene to carry out further checks to make sure.
Mark Webb, Fire Service Manager at Eastbourne Fire Station, told Eastbourne Buzz, “We’ve had a fairly involved fire at the rear of a kebab house in Susans Road. The fire was quite severe when we arrived. It appeared to be involving the back end of the shop, a storage area, which caused quite a lot of heat of smoke. We were initially told there were people inside the building, so fire crews entered the building and did a search and thankfully found there was no one in there. We’re now in the process of making sure the fire is fully out and we’ll start investigating the cause.”
Traffic has been delayed around the one-way system and police are in attendance.
