An investigation’s underway into the cause of a fire at County Hall in Lewes this morning (31 October).
Fire crews were called to the home of East Sussex County Council in St Anne’s Crescent just before 6.45am and left just after 11.30am. No one had been trapped in the blaze, which was on the second floor.
Parts of the building reopened and returned to business as normal.
East Sussex County Council's Chief Executive, Becky Shaw, said, “We are extremely grateful to the ESFRS for their prompt attendance and pleased there were no injuries. The fire has affected only one section of the building and parts of County Hall are open for business as usual. We do not expect any serious disruption to our services.”
