Eastbourne fire crews were called to a fire in the open in Willingdon this morning (2 November).
After Downland grasses were cut, a pile of cuttings was awaiting collection in Butts Lane, when fireworks were put in them and set alight.
The grass, which was still fresh, didn’t fully catch light but was smouldering.
Fire crews couldn’t get their truck to the scene, so requested Eastbourne Borough Council send their grab lorry. The excess cuttings were collected and a council worker stayed on the scene until all the smouldering had stopped.
No one was hurt.
