Entrepreneurs are being celebrated in Eastbourne.
The networking group, Mumpreneurs, which has a branch in the town, is holding a series of online events all week, to help those who are self employed to grow their businesses.
Nicky Chisholm Co-Founder and Director said, “Global Entrepreneurs Week starts today and we have 28 pop up events happening all over the world. It’s all about getting people to try new things, meet new people, new opportunities and learn new skills to grow their business within the entrepreneur community.”
The networking group was originally set up by mums, looking to start their own companies, but now the group is open to everyone. Kerry Knight, manager of Eastbourne Mumpreneurs Group said, “I think people are starting to look at self employment as a way of taking more control. I know that’s what I felt, certainly as a mum. I didn’t want to be told when I could and couldn’t be there for them. School plays and what if they were ill? So, for me, the logical answer was to find a way to work from home and to still be a mum and be there for my kids.”
Former MP, Stephen Lloyd paid a visit to their meeting on Friday (11 November). Addressing the group, he told them he believes one of the reasons Eastbourne has done so well is because we have more women in senior positions now, which is helping us to avoid challenges faced by all seaside towns.
