The first name on the Eastbourne Eagles team list for 2017 is Georgie Wood.
Wood has developed from an unknown reserve into a proven race-winner at National League level.
He made his debut as a newcomer to speedway racing in 2015 and stepped up last season to be a key figure in the club’s KO Cup success and chase for league glory, where they finished runners-up.
Team Manager Connor Dugard said, "Georgie put nearly two points on his starting average again this year. Building the team around him was a no brainer."
Wood had a home track average of 9.89 (including bonus points) and was, said Dugard, a “steal”.
“Whatever the point limit is Georgie is in all of our plans. If he makes the progress he has I wouldn't be surprised if he is riding in the Championship next year, let alone guest bookings in the Premiership,” Dugard added.
Wood said: "I'm happy to be back at Eastbourne. It was really the only place I wanted to be. We've made five finals out of five 5 in two years and won four of them. Hopefully we can kick on and win the league this coming year."
