Polegate MP, Maria Caulfield, has welcomed figures released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), showing that unemployment has fell to an 11-year low, with employment remaining at a record high, and 31.8 million people in work – an increase of almost 2.8 million since 2010.
Within the Lewes constituency, the ONS figures showed that the number of those claiming Jobseekers Allowance & Universal Credit had dropped by a staggering 53% when compared with October 2010.
Nationally the number of people in full-time work also grown, increasing by 2 million when compared with 2010, with average wages including bonuses growing by 2.3% over the last year.
Commenting, Maria said, ““I am absolutely delighted by these figures, which again go to show that our plan for the economy is a plan that works for everybody.
“I am particularly pleased to see that measures that this Government has taken are improving opportunities for young and disabled people with youth unemployment down by almost 350,000 when compared with 2010, and over 3.4 million disabled people now in employment, up 590,000 in the last three years.”
