1,100 people have signed a petition to try and stop the sale of Eastbourne downland. It was set up earlier this week and has quickly gathered pace.
The Borough Council’s looking at selling four farms to help raise money to fund projects elsewhere around the town. A public meeting this week, saw residents express their anger at the proposals, accusing the authority of acting behind closed doors and demanding a public consultation.
Leader of the council, David Tutt refused a public consultation, but is asking for anyone with questions to submit them in writing, with all questions and answers expected to be published by the end of the year.
In the meantime, the Keep Our Downlands Public group are vowing to continue to fighting, as they hope to change the council’s mind and stop the sale completely.
