Swap chocolates for memories this year, as Visit Eastbourne provides an unforgettable Christmas Countdown! The elves at Visit Eastbourne have created “Your Christmas Countdown”, the ultimate calendar that reveals an exciting daily activity that will have you feeling festive every day until New Year’s Day.

The December to-do list shouldn’t be dominated by buying presents and cooking turkeys, but instead by making special memories, gazing at twinkling light displays and gobbling a pub-lunch next to a roaring fire. Each date in the calendar will unveil a special day to spend with loved ones like enjoying lunch at Britain’s most decorated pub, The Marine, or watching David Walliams’ “The First Hippo on the Moon” theatre show. Crucial Christmas dates are included such as the last date to send Letters to Father Christmas at Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre’s North Pole Postal Service.

The idea behind “Your Christmas Countdown” is to promote the fantastic festive attractions, events and hidden treasures across Eastbourne in December and get tourists and locals alike creating precious memories in the magical seaside town. The calendar is filled with spectacular theatre events, delicious eateries and Christmas markets to be discovered. The calendar can be downloaded on the ‘Visit Eastbourne’ website and printed off to help with Christmas planning and not miss a thing!

Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said, “Eastbourne is the perfect destination for making wonderful memories with loved ones. The town has an amazing atmosphere in December as our delicious restaurants, magnificent theatres and attractions team together to offer tourists and visitors a truly magical Christmas experience.”

Taking part in the seasonal fun is Eastbourne’s Tourist Information Centre which has transformed into a mesmerising, decorative display of decorations as the Bauble Bonanza competition returns. After last year’s success, the ceiling is decked out once again with hundreds of baubles. Visitors can guess how many are hanging and will receive a chocolate treat in exchange for participating.

A free ‘Letters to Father Christmas’ service is also running until 21 December, with no stamps needed. The TIC staff will send off children’s letters to Father Christmas in their North Pole Express Postbox, with children guaranteed to receive a reply from Father Christmas by 24 December.

The team behind ‘Visit Eastbourne’ are set to get hands on as they present a series of short how-to videos for Christmas crafts, mouth-watering recipes and even a guide to gift-wrapping to continue the countdown. Festive games and competitions will be taking place across the month on Twitter and Facebook, with entrants able to win exclusive tickets including the chance to win £20, £30 and £50 worth of gift vouchers at the Bandstand.

With over 32 activities to tick off the list, this December will be hard to beat. Those taking part are encouraged to interact with Visit Eastbourne’s Twitter and Facebook pages and share their photos as they keep up with the calendar.

The Bauble Bonanza and Letters to Father Christmas Service runs at Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre on Cornfield Road until 24 December, for more information call 01323 415415. The Christmas Countdown can be found online.
