Drivers are being warned to avoid the A27 this morning (7 December), which is currently closed between Polegate and the Drusillas roundabout, owing to a crash.
Two vehicles collided on Lewes Road at the junction with the A27 at 5.45am. Two fire engines from Eastbourne were called to the scene and freed one person using hydraulic equipment.
Two people have been taken to hospital by ambulance and emergency services are still on the scene, making the area safe, but fire crews expect to be leaving soon (7.32am).
The A22 is heavily congested and the A259 coast road is also seeing traffic build up, with long queues reported on all alternative routes. Some buses are being delayed as a result of the level of traffic.
Sussex Roads Police believe the road is likely to remain shut for some time.
