With Eastbourne’s MP joining calls for a public consultation into the future of farms on the Downs, could campaigners be moving towards victory?
The Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, David Tutt, has told Eastbourne Buzz he would talk with Caroline Ansell about the matter saying, “I would be happy to discuss it with her. As she will be aware for consultation to be meaningful it needs to cover a wider range of issues. I am happy to hear how she thinks this might be best achieved.”
Campaigners are angry at the authority’s plans to sell the freehold of the farms to generate revenue to fund other projects around the town, saying the land was given to the public decades ago. However, Town Hall says they have no other option but to sell the land, as their only alternative would be to borrow the money to pay for improvements to Eastbourne.
