Opposing parties at Eastbourne Town Hall are locking horns over the issue of Downland farms and whether a formal consultation should be held.
The Liberal Democrats, who are in charge of the Borough Council, say they are engaging with the public over the sale of the freehold. However, the Conservative opposition says it wants a referendum.
The town's MP, Caroline Ansell, echoes the call of campaigners, who want a full public consultation into the matter.
