Another day, another strike on the trains in Eastbourne.
Conductors on Southern, who are members of the RMT Union have walked out today (19 December) for 48 hours.
It’s in the ongoing row over their future on the trains. Southern plan to introduce driver-only trains, which will see safety critical conductors replaced with safety trained on board supervisors. The RMT fear this will jeopardise passenger safety, but Southern say this is a tried and tested method of operation.
During the strikes, which may also be hit by an overtime ban in place for drivers with their union, Aslef over the same issue, there will be no trains between Eastbourne and Hastings, with a bus replacement in operation during the walkout. However, small stations, such as Pevensey Bay and Normans Bay, won’t be covered by the bus replacement route.
