The Community Christmas 2016 project has been praised by Polegate MP Maria Caulfield.
The project aims to tackle elderly loneliness this Christmas, by offering free events and activities on Christmas Day. These events range from an organised Christmas lunch to a trip to the pub or even a film viewing.
There have been nearly 400 events registered this year, but there are still large parts of the country where it will not be possible for someone who is lonely this Christmas to have company.
Maria commented, “No one should be lonely on Christmas Day, and this project is a fantastic way to help those who do not have anyone to spend Christmas with. I have been involved with a number of projects in the constituency this year including the Newhaven Rotary Christmas lunch which catered for over 100 local residents. You can never underestimate the impact that these have on people.”
“I urge the charities and organisations in our communities to register an event and for anyone who is lonely this Christmas to search for one of these events. You are not alone.”
