Commuters heading from Eastbourne to Brighton found themselves late to work on Thursday (14 May).
Southern have confirmed that the 5.08am from Eastbourne to Victoria arrived at Lewes two minutes late, owing to temporary speed restrictions between Hampden Park and Polegate. Then the 5.32am Lewes to Brighton service left early, owing to a mistake by staff.
These two occurrences narrowed the time for passengers to get from platform 2 to platform 4 from three minutes to no more than two, meaning many missed their connecting train to Brighton - including Southern workers.
Those left at Lewes had to wait around 20 minutes for the next train.
Southern say there were no further knock-on effects to trains due to misplaced staff. They are apologising to passengers who missed their normal train and are reminding all commuters to allow 10 minutes to make connections where possible.
