Government funding, raised through higher stamp duty for people buying second homes, is to help quell the housing shortage in Eastbourne.
The town is to receive around £365,000, according to the Housing Minister, Gavin Barwell. He’s asked MP Caroline Ansell to monitor how and where the cash is spent, to make more affordable homes available in the town.
In response, Caroline said, “I’m really pleased with this really good news today. I thought it was an excellent policy raising stamp duty from those buying second homes and that money is then channelled back into local communities. Eastbourne stands to gain over £300,000 to promote building of affordable homes.”
