New Year’s Eve revellers are being warned strike action will heavily hit train services in and out of Eastbourne today (31 December).
The RMT Union has again walked out in the long-running dispute over the introduction of on board supervisors on Southern, as conductors are removed to make way for driver only trains. The union says the move is dangerous and will put passengers at risk, but Southern say driver only is a methof already used on many routes across the country and insist it is safe.
With a reduced service running today, some areas will see no trains at all, with replacement buses operating between Eastbourne and Ashford International. However, smaller stations like Pevensey Bay won’t be served by the replacement buses.
The latest round of industrial action will also hit passengers tomorrow and Monday (2 January). Southern is also warning trains could be cancelled at short notice, owing to an overtime ban in place for drivers with the Aslef union. The advice is to check before you travel.
