It’s not been a Happy New Year for a family in Eastbourne.
Fire crews were called to Colwood Crescent in Old Town at 8.10am this morning (1 January) where a house was well alight. At its height, 23 firefighters were on the scene, with crews from Eastbourne, Hastings, Seaford and Hailsham.
A family of four, along with six dogs and a chinchilla were all evacuated from the property by the time emergency services arrived, with one person reportedly treated for smoke inhalation.
The British Red Cross has been called in to make sure the family have somewhere to stay until their home is habitable again.
Update 12.40pm: The fire is now out and both the fire and rescue service and the British Red Cross have left the scene. An investigation's due to be carried out to locate the source of the fire.
