A consultation on the UK’s proposed ban on the manufacture and sale of cosmetics and personal care products containing microbeads which may harm the marine environment has been applauded Polegate MP, Maria Caulfield.
The consultation - which closes on the 28th February 2017 – has been jointly launched by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland.
The process will also seek to gather evidence on the extent of the environmental impacts of further sources of potential marine plastic pollution, to inform future UK actions to protect the marine environment.
Welcoming the move, Maria said, “I very much welcome this news. I have had a large number of my constituent’s contact me with their concerns on this matter, and I agree that it is in everybody’s interests that marine pollution is tackled wherever possible, for the good of all of those that use it, as well as the marine environment itself.”
