There’s no sign that East Sussex will follow in footsteps of Surrey when it comes to upping council tax.

Surrey County Council has hit the headlines with their plans for a referendum to hike their bills by 15% to help fund social care, which includes services for the elderly and children.

East Sussex has a deficit of £6million for adult social care, but a spokesperson has said their proposals for the coming budget are set, commenting, "The proposal going to cabinet next week is for a 4.9 per cent increase in council tax, including the three per cent levy authorised by the government to meet part of the rising cost of social care.

"These proposals will be discussed by cabinet and will be subject to a vote of the full council next month."
