Polegate MP, Maria Caulfield, has signed the ‘Book of Commitment’, to mark Holocaust Memorial Day today (27 January).
Holocaust Memorial Day is the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration camp: Auschwitz-Birkenau, and is celebrated internationally to honour the lives lost and to serve as a vivid memory of the atrocities committed.
The book allowed Maria to pay her respects to those who died in the Holocaust and commemorate their legacies. It has been signed by the majority of MPs in Westminster.
The ‘Book of Commitment’ is part of a series of events and discussions as part of Holocaust Memorial Day. During the week, there has been a lecture from Lord Merlyn-Rees, a discussion with Professor Yehuda Bauer and a Survivors Webcast with Holocaust survivor Mala Tribich MBE.
Maria commented, “After my visit to Israel, I was reminded of horrors committed during this period and the consequential need to commemorate the dead and remind ourselves of the atrocities. I felt obligated to sign the ‘Book of Commitment’ in order to pay my respects to the lives lost.”
