Confirmation that funding has been secured for Polegate by East Sussex County Council and the South East LEP has been welcomed by the town’s MP, Maria Caulfield.
The successful bid, labelled The East Sussex Strategic Growth Package has secured £8.2m for four projects across the County - including Polegate - which will deliver the development of 34,632m2 of new, high quality business floor space.
Welcoming the announcement, Ms Caulfield said, “I am delighted that at long last the potential of Polegate is being recognised. This funding will create jobs and enable vital infrastructure to support the community of Polegate within my constituency. For too long Polegate has been seen as somewhere just to build housing but this money will help deliver the infrastructure to go with it. This investment provides clear direction that East Sussex as a County is committed to delivering economic growth, and regenerating and revitalising communities with new jobs and improved connectivity.”
The package is expected to improve educational attainment, create new jobs and provide the enabling infrastructure to support the delivery of new homes and employment, and will leverage an additional £13m in private sector funding in East Sussex.
The financial boost to the town follows a number of bids that have been put forward by the South East LEP to secure funding made available by the Government through the Local Growth Fund.
