Dog walkers are being warned that solidified palm oil has reportedly washed up on beaches around Sovereign Harbour.
The waxy substance can prove fatal to dogs if they lick it or eat, but is also attractive to them. Whilst large blocks of palm oil are known to wash ashore, the pieces washing up at the moment are said to be flat, around 1cm thick and looks similar to a slice of white coconut ice.
Premier Marinas have been alerted to the situation.
This evening (16 February), Eastbourne Buzz has received a report of more palm oil being spotted on the shingle near the pumping station.
