The Mayor of Eastbourne has been casting an eye over how the restoration of the Allchorn Pleasure Boats is going.
Councillor Pat Hearn, along with the Leader of the Borough Council, David Tutt, took a tour of the boat shed this morning (21 February), to see how the project is coming along. Volunteers are busy working on the Southern Queen and the William Allchorn, as they look to return the vessels to the sea, to once again provide pleasure trips along the Eastbourne Coast.
Councillor Pat Hearn said, “I can appreciate that it’s a big project and they’ve got the enthusiasm, but they need help with the nitty gritty. I think it’s great they want this to be an educational centre. I wish them well and I’m waiting to go out on the boat – I like boats!”
Councillor David Tutt said, “I remember going round the lighthouse many a time in my earlier days and it would be great to see them back on the water. The new owners have got a fantastic project here, with educational involvement and volunteer help. It’s a real community based project and the council is right behind them all the way.”
