Eastbourne’s Sovereign Harbour could finally be on course to getting its long awaiting community centre.

A planning application for Site Six has been submitted, with the western side of the site being earmarked for the development.

Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor David Tutt, said, “Local people living in Sovereign Harbour care passionately about their home and have campaigned tirelessly to establish a new community centre.

“I’m delighted that the planning application has been submitted. We’re now so much closer to the day when the hopes of local people will be realised.”

The new community centre will comprise a large main hall with double height space, a smaller hall, storage areas, kitchen, meeting rooms and reception.

In addition, the foyer has a café area that will open out onto a secure outside terrace.

Deputy Leader of East Sussex County Council, Councillor David Elkin, said, “This superb new community centre has been a long time in coming, but now we have reached this stage in the process the sense of expectation is tangible.

“I’m particularly pleased for the community and the hard work put in by so many to make it happen.”
