The 2016 Eastbourne Sports Festival run by Sport Eastbourne saw 1,200 people attending taster sessions of over 50 different sports last weekend (14 – 15 May) with the most popular sports to try out being trampolining, gymnastics, dodgeball, archery, football, street dance, track athletics and fencing.
The festival’s biggest success came from the Eastbourne Cycle Centre Team, also known as Bikeability East Sussex, who had over 200 people of all ages throughout the weekend trying out various different adapted bikes allowing people of all abilities to learn how to ride or try a different style of bicycle in a safe environment on the athletics track at Eastbourne Sports Park.
Further successes of the festival were the Sovereign centre’s H2o Pool Party proving popular with 100 people attending, and over 40 people trying their hand at bowls at Gildredge Park Bowls Club. The event was also a success for tennis with Hampden Park Tennis Club, Tennis Eastbourne, Tennis In The Park and Sport Eastbourne all running well attended tennis sessions.
Working with the local branch of the NSPCC, the festival was also raising money to help fund training of volunteers and to help with the running of the ChildLine Schools Service. The festival raised £1511 for the cause, through charging just £1 per person, per session!
