Network Rail have confirmed it was a fault that saw Hampden Park level crossing stuck in the down position yesterday (23 February).
The fault at around 10am prevented the gates from working properly, so in the interest of safety, Network Rail say the barriers were held down until the fault was fixed, around an hour later.
During that time, Sussex Police diverted traffic and pedestrians via alternative routes.
A Network Rail spokesperson said, “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
