The environmental lawyer, who has been assisting in the Keep Our Downs Public campaign, has quit the Liberal Democrat Party in favour of the Conservatives.
Simon Boyle, who lives in Eastbourne, stated in his resignation letter, “I have voted for the Liberal Democrats all my life, but I shall never do so again. I thought that the LibDems were the party who stood up for the environment. How very wrong I was!
“I shall be joining the Conservatives who have tried their best to fight the sale of the Downland Farms. And they still are.”
Conservative Councillor Robert Smart, who ridiculed the LibDem arguments regarding the proposed sale at last week’s Council meeting, welcomed Simon into the Conservative Party. Councillor Smart suggests that the hypocrisy and incompetence of the LibDems has been exposed and many more will follow Simon’s lead.
