We’re being warned not to let strangers into blocks of flats in Sovereign Harbour.

It’s after Eastbourne Police were made aware of a post box in one of the developments in Midway Quay being compromised, with personal information and documentation being stolen and used to obtain thousands of pounds fraudulently.

Officers are urging us to only let people into buildings if we know they have a genuine reason to be there. We’re also being asked to be vigilant to strangers loitering, or taking an unusual interest in the security of the building.

PC Ed Faulkner said, “Incidents of fraud are becoming more common nationally, and can happen both online as well as by people intercepting mail or other information.

“These crimes have an enormous impact on the victims, and often involve large sums of money. Whilst we will do all we can to keep the areas safe, we need the help of residents to let us know of anything odd or suspicious. We can be contacted via 101 for non-emergency matters, or 999 is the incident is urgent. If you notice some mail missing, or your mail box tampered with please report this to Police, and if relevant your bank, so that we can take action.”
