Eastbourne Bede's Prep Girls County Cricket Champs

Eastbourne's Bede's Prep School's girls played superbly to win the Lady Taverner’s Indoor U13 County Cricket  Championship 2017. 

The Bede’s Prep girls bowled accurately, batted positively, and they ran brilliantly and were sharp and determined. The Bede’s fielding was good, the girls caught some great catches (16 in total) and created 7 Run Outs. The wicket keepers caught well and there were few Byes. The Bede’s U13 team won their 4 matches to win the Sussex Final.  They played with great determination. 

Bede’s beat Downlands by 54 runs. Izzy Atherton and Matilda Collins both scored 15 and had to be retired.  Milly T also batted convincingly and scored runs at the end of the innings, and Kirstin scored 11. Bede’s scored 102 - 4. Bede’s bowled well with Izzy taking 3-1, and Amelia and Kayla both taking wickets.  Downlands scored 48. 

Bede’s played Tanbridge next and Bede’s scored 96. Izzie and Matilda started well. Milly T chipped in with some runs, Kirstin and Amelia both scored well, and boasted the score. The girls bowled Tanbridge out for 69. Izzy took 2 wickets. Maddy Smith and Kayla both bowled well and took wickets, and Matilda’s Run Outs (x2) were excellent. The girls were alert and sharp, and appealed for a Hit Wicket dismissal, which helped ensure the win. Bede’s won by 27 runs.        

Bede’s then played Sir Robert Woodard Academy. Bede’s batted first, and our opening batters faced a good bowling attack. Milly Trenaman, Amelie Barker and Kirstin Orr batted positively and Bede’s scored 68. Izzy Atherton opened the bowling and took 3-1 in the first over, with Amelie Barker taking a superb catch at Mid On. Kayla Ginger followed taking 2-1 in the second over, and Maddy Smith bowled very well with 3-3. Amelie, Kirstin, Kayla, Matilda, and Izzy’s catches were superb and resulted in Tanbridge being bowled out for 29 in 5.3 overs. The Bede’s bowling and catching was outstanding. Bede’s won by 39 runs. 

The last game was against Warden Park. Bede’s batted first and scored 98. Izzy and Matilda were Retired on 15 and 16. Milly was also Retired. Amelia, Maddy and Grace Tuson all chipped in. Izzy and Matilda were re-introduced and both batted superbly. Izzy scored 18, and Matilda’s 25 was superb – both girls ran very well between the wickets. Izzy opened the bowling and took a wicket immediately and Matilda’s Run Out in the first over, reduced Warden Park to 2-3. Kayla bowled superbly to take another wicket and Maddy’s Run Out reduced their total to 4-6. Maddy and Matilda both took wickets in the following overs, and Amelie and Grace also took wickets. Bede’s bowled Warden Park out for 28 and won by 70 runs.

The Bede’s girls played with great determination. They bowled accurately and fielded superbly. The girls were alert and sharp in the field. Their catching was excellent and the Run Outs were equally impressive.  Everyone contributed in this tournament. The batting was good. The girls batted with positive intent, and everyone scored runs, which is very exciting. The girls scored 364 runs in total. All the girls played good cricket, and played massive roles in the team’s success. The Bede’s Girls won the Sussex Lady Taverner’s Indoor Tournament and will compete in the Regional South East Finals in May.
