Match report by Liam Brooks

Polegate Town won their final home match of the season by beating Barcombe 3-2 in the Mid Sussex Championship on a blustery day down at Polegate Rec. Town fell behind early on but soon levelled when centre back Jacob Holder diverted Alex Frost's shot past the keeper from close range. A mistake at the back allowed Barcombe to take the lead again, but again Town equalised quickly with Alex Frost scoring from close range after good work by Jack Hutchinson and George Whitley.

With the wind in Town's advantage in the second half, they pushed on and took the lead with Frost scoring his second by lobbing the keeper. Town rarely looked troubled at the back and were unlucky not to extend their lead, with Alex Speirs going the closest seeing his shot tipped onto the inside of the post by the keeper.

A good win for Town, which will see them finish either 5th or 6th in the league depending on whether they win their final league game away to Roffey 2nds this weekend. MoM: Marcus Whiteman

Town's 2nd team were called off at the last minute, when opponents Peacehaven & Telscombe 3rds were unable to raise a team in the Supplementary Cup. Town will be awarded the 3pts, but would rather have earned them on the pitch.
