Work has started to revamp and upgrade the main entrance at Eastbourne DGH.
The building work will improve the patient and visitor experience and is expected to be completed in early autumn. There will be new refreshment facilities offering a varied selection of food and drink and an improved layout of the foyer with an updated reception and outpatient booking facilities.
Two new café facilities, one in the main entrance and one on the lower ground of the hospital will be created with plans for another refreshment facility in the main entrance. Whilst building work in underway a “temporary café” will operate from the site of the old flower shop. The Friends Shop, refurbished in 2014, remains and will continue to provide its current range of services.
Chris Hodgson, Associate Director of Estates and Facilities said, “We want to provide patients and visitors to the hospital a better experience with a new layout of the area and a varied selection of food and refreshment offerings. We will try to minimise any disturbance but would apologies in advance for any disruption whist this building work is in progress.”
The upgrading of the main entrance is partly funded by Aramark, who became the new provider of café facilities at Eastbourne DGH from 1 April 2017. The refurbishment is part of an overall investment of £25million upgrading parts to the hospital over a 5-year period.
